The Sens took on the Hull Jet last weekend and eventually ran out fairly comfortable 9-3 winners.
The first period was very scrappy with Sens hoping to dominate the play against a short benched
Hull side, but they didn’t have it all their own way. After some frustrating misses, Nathan Britton
eventually put the home team ahead with a snipe to the top-shelf after set up play by Tom Humphries
and Tom Proctor. Any thought Sens had about putting the game to bed from here were dashed when
they failed to score in the rest of the period and Hull pulled a goal back through an odd-man rush
to go into the break at 1-1.
The players had some words in the changing room and this seemed to spark them into life more for
the second period and two quick goals from Tom Humphries (unassisted) and Tom Proctor assisted
Tom Humphries and Nathan Britton put Sens comfortably in the lead. Further goals from Elliott Knell
and two more from Nathan Britton – who completed his hat-trick – meant that the period ended 6-1
in favour of the home team and it was clearly a different team that that of the first. It did, however,
almost boil over when both Cam Brownley received a ten minute misconduct for dropping the gloves
with an unwilling Hull player and and John-Henry Walker receiving a match penalty for a similar
offence when Sens just needed to keep their composure and put the game beyond the visitors.
The third started with Sens orignally being on the penalty kill, but Hull received a delay of game
penalty for not being ready in time and so it began 4 on 4. Just 24 seconds into the period some smart
play from Tom Proctor set up Tom Humphries to score at the back post. Hull pulled another goal back
to make it 9-2 before two more quick goals from Arran Bell and Tom Proctor made sure of the result,
with a late consolation goal making the final score 9-3.
Send will be happy with the two points, all of which are important this season but will be slightly
concerned about the lack of discipline that has crept into a couple of the games and will cost them
against other teams in the league. However they will be looking forward to the double header this
weekend and hopefully picking up 4 more points!
